Mart Avi has carved an “outernational” musical space for himself – something akin to a sonic spider spinning new puzzles on the World Wide Web with each project. His trademark combination of playful grandeur and unmapped futurist soundscapes has infatuated audiences from the Netherlands to Taiwan, and charmed the choosiest critics both in these quarters and abroad. During recent isolation-era Avi unleashed the Zeitgeisty dual single “Spark” | “Soul ReaVer”, a taster to his fifth solo album titled “Vega Never Sets”, to be released in late 2020 that is anticipated by none other than the world’s most influential pop culture auteur Simon Reynolds as “a promise to be a gorgeous treat”. The vampiric balladry of “Soul ReaVer” was highlighted in the MOJO’s June issue as one of the top 10 tunes of the month and “shimmering, melodious pop escape”, whilst Louder Than War has described it as “a killer slice of emotional distance” with “the notes dropping like blossom.”
