Tautumeitas is an ethno-pop band from Latvia taking melodies and lyrics from Latvian folk songs, creating powerful harmonies, and fusing them with modern beats and production, spreading magic wherever they go. The girls are also creative with their appearance – their costumes and crowns represent how close the traditional and futuristic styles actually are. Their visual aesthetic is cosmic, powerful, and feminine.
Tautumeitas’ self-titled debut album, released in 2018, won the Latvian Music Recording Award “Zelta Mikrofons” in the “Folk/World Music Album of the Year 2018” category, but the album “Songs from Auleja” received the “Folk/World Music Album of the Year 2020” award. In February 2022, the song “Tur, kur Dieva kamanas slīd”, created in collaboration with the band “Brainstorm”, won “The Most Valuable Song of 2021” award in the Musical Bank song contest held by Latvian Radio 2. Additionally, the group is a four-time Annual Latgalian Culture Award “Boņuks” winner.
Their latest album “Skrejceļš” was released in the spring of 2022 and was celebrated by the band’s biggest show in Latvia to date. The album has also received the “Folk/World Music Album of the Year 2022” award. The band is currently in the second leg of a 15-date “Skrejceļš” tour around Latvia.
At the beginning of 2023, Tautumeitas played at “Eurosonic” festival, where they were recognised by KEXP DJ Kevin Cole. This led to their song “Spodrē manu augumiņu” being the KEXP song of the day in February. In the summer of 2023, Tautumeitas started appearing in the European festival circuit.
